Barclays testing bitcoin payments with charity accounts / Alex Hamilton / SEPTEMBER 4, 2015

Barclays could become the first major bank to work with bitcoin, as it’s revealed that the bank plans to allow charities to pay bitcoins into their Barclays accounts.

The bank, according to reports, has 75 members of staff working on the best way for it to start accepting the cryptocurrency. Barclays won’t be dealing with the bitcoins directly – it will be employing the services of an as-yet unknown bitcoin exchange.

Whether the bank will push onwards by using bitcoin with other accounts is currently unknown. In a statement, Barclays stressed that it’s using the charity accounts as a ‘proof of concept’ for how cryptocurrency might help charities raise funds.
