With everything going on in the world today, it is hard to keep track of the things that remain near and dear to our hearts. Most of the focus in mainstream media headlines relate to refugees, terrorism and financial turmoil. Some people are even wondering whether or not society is losing sight of core values, such as peace and harmony. Bitcoin exchange FoxBit is looking to change that perspective, by launching a “Bitcoin for Peace” campaign.
Uniting Bitcoin Exchanges to Donate Trading Fees
The main goal of FoxBit’s “Bitcoin for Peace” campaign, is to boost the public image of virtual currency all around the world. Doing so will not be an easy task, as Bitcoin has been fighting tooth and nail to clean up its image since day one. Over the years, Bitcoin has had a coloured past, as the disruptive virtual currency has often been associated with scams, Ponzi schemes and illegal activities.
However, there is a major opportunity right around the corner and Latin America’s largest Bitcoin exchange wants to take full advantage of that event. September 21st is an important day to mark on your calendar, as this date marks the International Day of Peace. What makes this day so interesting is that all people living in conflicted areas will receive the same level of support from charitable organisations all over the world.
Bitcoin for Peace is a project that will (hopefully) bring together major Bitcoin exchange platforms so that they can donate all trading fees collected on that very day. All of the funds donated will then be distributed to entities helping those in need, ranging from Ebola patients to victims of terrorism and even the less fortunate in your own country.
International Day of Peace was created by the United Nations in 1981 and is themed differently every year. The theme for this year will be “Partners for Peace – Dignity for all”, which seems to be a perfect choice. Over the next week, multiple campaigns will be launched by various companies all over the world to show solidarity with the UN mission.
FoxBit is the first Bitcoin company to openly show their support for International Day of Peace, an example that will hopefully be followed by other exchanges in the next few days. In recent years, Bitcoin has seen a fair share of success in terms of being used for donation purposes and charitable organisations embracing virtual currency payments.
None of these efforts would be possible without support from the Bitcoin community itself, though. Events such as these bring out the best in people and Bitcoin enthusiasts around the world have shown just how supporting they can be. It will be interesting to see whether or not FoxBit’s Bitcoin for Peace campaign can become a major success and milestone for virtual currency.
Non-Foxbit Users Welcome to Donate
Even if no other Bitcoin exchange would join Foxbit in their efforts, virtual currency users are not obligated to participate through the exchange platform itself. Instead, Foxbit has created a donation address where all Bitcoin community members can send donations to, on their own accord.
All of the donations collected from community members will be added to the total amount of fees raised on September 21st. Shortly after the International Day of Peace is over, Foxbit will process the entire donation amount and send it to the appropriate parties. At this time, it is unclear as to whether or not this donation will be made in Bitcoin itself, or rather in fiat currency.
According to the information provided in the press release, Foxbit will donate the funds to NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres (also known as Doctors Without Borders). Considering this NGO has a global presence and helps those in need across all continents, it seems to be a perfect choice by Foxbit.
