Roger Ver launches casino on Bitcoin.com, Americans not allowed

A brand new Bitcoin casino has launched for international players at Roger Ver’s Bitcoin.com under the domain Casino.Bitcoin.com. The newly minted site is the product of a deal between Bitcoin.com and SoftSwiss Casino Software (SoftSwiss N.V.), a Curaçao-based market leader in online gaming, will bring over 1,000 games including high-stakes gambling.

This deal continues to expand the scope of Bitcoin.com as a portal for all things Bitcoin.

The deal between Bitcoin.com and SoftSwiss is being called a “White Label Partnership” by the online gaming firm. SoftSwiss claims to provide a large number of gambling games that can be funded with and reward bitcoins and feature a security measure designed to allow the casino to be made “provably fair.” The partnership also features over 1,000 games from seven different providers.

“Our company was the first to mix Bitcoin payments with traditional online gaming, creating a secure mechanism which earned the trust of many successful operators,” Ivan Montik, CEO of SoftSwiss, said to Bitcoin.com News. “We are extremely proud of this collaboration and are sure that Bitcoin.com will be a hit. It’s not just about the name, it’s about the combination of the powerful platform, games from the best providers, highly attractive bonuses, and attentive customer support. We are thus motivated to deliver the most exciting gaming experience ever under Bitcoin.com”

The security on casino money will stay in the hands of operators, with customer funds held in cold storage. Employees will manually process withdrawals and review documentation, requiring two-factor authentication to ensure transaction security.

“By partnering with SoftSwiss,” Roger Ver, Bitcoin entrepreneur-evangelist and CEO of Bitcoin.com, said “Bitcoin.com has shown that we are dedicated to working with first class professionals to create a more exciting and useful Bitcoin ecosystem for everyone involved.”

A number of Bitcoin casinos have come and gone in the Bitcoin industry. One of the best known, Seals With Clubs, shut down in 2014 after a major security breach. As a result, many online gambling sites are run anonymously, have security issues and tend to close without notice taking customers’ cash with them.

SoftSwiss has been in operation since 2008 and Bitcoin.com has shown a stable business model building a Bitcoin information and service portal since September last year. Gambling outfits are also plagued with problems with dealing with financial processors (such as PayPal and credit card processors) that often will not partner with online gambling.

According to Bitcoin.com, the casino will offer deposit, play and cash out options using credit cards, Neteller and Skrill, among others alongside the primary option of Bitcoin.

U.S. players must look elsewhere for their jollies

Players from around the world will enjoy the casino games using bitcoins; however, if you happen to be from the United States: no dice.

Visitors from the United States are met with a screen that explains “[i]t is federally illegal for residents of the United States and related territories to play for real money at Casino.bitcoin.com or any other online gaming places.”

When asked about the interesting 404 (“Page Not Found Error”) page displayed to visitors from the United States, seen above, Ver told SiliconANGLE, “The philosophical answer is that a bunch of strangers in Washington D.C., that neither of us have ever met, are threatening both of us if I were to allow you to use your own money on my own website.

In 2006, the United States Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA), legislation that effectively makes online gambling across the U.S. illegal. As a result, at the time of passage, numerous previously active online gambling sites immediately withdrew service from the U.S.
