Yahoo Aware Of Hacker Selling 200 Million User Credentials On Dark Web

TheRealDeal market vendor called “Peace” is selling 200 million alleged Yahoo user credentials on the market. Yahoo said they are “aware” of the hacker, however, they did not confirm the legitimacy of the data. A Yahoo spokesperson told the media in an email:

“We are aware of a claim. We are committed to protecting the security of our users’ information and we take any such claim very seriously. Our security team is working to determine the facts. Yahoo works hard to keep our users safe, and we always encourage our users to create strong passwords, or give up passwords altogether by using Yahoo Account Key, and use different passwords for different platforms.”

A sample data showed that Peace’s information contains usernames, hashed passwords, date of birth (DOB), and some victims’ backup email addresses. The data contains 200 million records and is being sold for 3 BTC (around $1860). According to the vendor, the user credentials are from “2012 most likely.”

When Peace had been told that Yahoo did not confirm the breach, he said:

“well fuck them they dont want to confirm well better for me they dont do password reset.”
