PIVX is a crypto-based on the Proof of Stake protocol which enables users to stake and run masternodes. After the implementation of the Zerocoin protocol, it became the first PoS currency ever to feature anonymous transactions.

We will be looking at some of the best PIVX wallets that you can use to store this privacy-focused coin.

Things to consider before choosing a PIVX Wallet

Before you decide to download and install a wallet for storing PIVX coins, there are some factors that you should keep in mind when doing your research.

Staking Support: As we mentioned above, PIVX is a PoS crypto which allows you to stake and receive more coins. If you are interested in staking, check if the wallet has this functionality.

Full Node wallet: A full node wallet gives you access to all features of the protocol. But, this also means that it will take longer to load, as you will have to download the entire blockchain. You will also need to have additional memory space on your computer for this.

Running Masternodes: If you want to run a masternode, you must look for a wallet that allows the stake functionality.

System compatibility: Check if the wallet is compatible with your version of the software.

Security: Cold wallets have enhanced security when compared to the web or mobile wallets.

PIVX Core Wallet

PIVX Core is the official PIVX wallet developed for the coin. The development team being PIVX created it and integrated the stake functionality which allows users to earn rewards.

Because it is a staking wallet, you will be required to download the entire PIVX blockchain, which will require memory space on your computer. But, after the download process is complete, the wallet will sync and offer a secure environment for PIVX storing.

This is a good option for those who are looking to run full PIVX node masternodes. For this, you will be required to have a minimum stake of 10,000 PIVX to be able to earn the masternode reward.

As you will be operating a full node on the network, this PIVX wallet allows you to use all the features provided by the Zerocoin protocol, meaning that you can send transactions while being completely anonymous.

The wallet has interfaces for devices running on Windows, Linux, and OSX.

PIVX Light Wallet

Another PIVX wallet that was developed by the PIVX team is the PIVX Light Wallet. This was created to be a “light” version of the above-mentioned core wallet. With this wallet, you do not have to download the entire blockchain, only the block headers.

It includes features, such as Mnemonic passphrase security and autofill, inbuilt currency swaps, payment requests, and QR code generation.

This wallet also has staking functionality. The downside is that it lacks Zerocoin implementation, meaning that you can’t send anonymous transactions.

The PIVX light wallet can be used on Windows, MacOS, and Linux devices.

Ledger Nano S Wallet

Ledger Nano S is a multi-currency hardware wallet which also includes support for PIVX.  It is the safest storage option, as all transaction authentications are made on the device. As it has no internet connection, hackers will not be able to reach your funds.

There are also other wallets offered by the Nano team which support PIVX: the Nano X and the Ledger Blue.

In spite of having a wide range of security features, it comes with a hefty price tag (~ $60) and you cannot stake PIVX.

PIVX Mobile Wallet

This PIVX mobile wallet has been available for Android systems since July, 2017, but in January, 2019 the PIVX team also launched a dedicated wallet for iOS devices.

The PIVX wallet is an HD wallet which features a 24-word backup seed that can be used to recover the funds in case something bad happens.

PIN protection is also included, and no email or ID verification is required for you to be able to use the wallet. The disadvantage is that it does not have Zerocoin protocol support for the iOS version, but the developers are working to have this feature integrated soon.

Coinomi Wallet

Coinomi is a recommended third party wallet that supports PIVX storage. This HD wallet also allows you to store a number of other cryptos, in addition to PIVX.

This HD wallet enables you to securely control your private keys, as it generates an 18-word seed for your PIVX wallet to use in case you will have to recover your wallet funds.

ShapeShift and Changelly functionalities are also integrated, allowing you to convert cryptos directly from your wallet. You can also buy or sell cryptos for fiat currency.

Coinomi has mobile versions for Android and iOS, and desktop apps for Windows, Linux, and OSX. Unfortunately, the wallet does not have the staking option integrated.

PIVX Paper Wallet

If you are not looking to trade or spend your coins anytime soon, then a PIVX paper wallet is a good alternative for a cold wallet. To make a paper wallet you will have to use a website service to generate your paper wallet, while your computer is offline.

From the Github repository of the project, download all the source files, and then, open the index.html. Turn off your internet connection and proceed to the required steps to generate your seed word and wallet. After generating the keys to your wallet you can print them on a piece of paper and store them somewhere safe. Do not save it as a file on your computer. Obviously, you cannot stake on this wallet.

Conclusion

We hope that our list of PIVX wallets will aid you in your search for the most suitable storage option. If you intend on staking PIVX, then it is recommended that you opt for the official PIVX desktop wallet.
