While Apple is cracking down on Nostr, much to the dismay of many bitcoiners, a malicious application has snuck into the AppStore. Beware of “Trezor Wallet Suite”!
Anyone looking for the Trezor-related application in the AppStore will find the app called “Trezor Wallet Suite” in the first place.
According to a Twitter user, once installed, the application prompts to enter the seed phrase so that the creators can steal its cryptocurrencies.
The malicious app has been around for weeks. The total number of victims, while unknown, could well be over a thousand, it said.
There is criticism of Apple in particular: “How can apps developed by honest people be rejected in the AppStore while this crap goes through all the checks? What does [Apple] take 30 percent commission for?”
The Twitter user is thus pointing to an Apple policy that is controversial in the crypto scene. Last week, two bitcoin apps already had to adjust functionality to be allowed to stay in the AppStore.
The suspected malicious app is not the only vulnerability in Trezor. The hardware wallet also has a security gap and can be hacked.
However, due to the recent controversy surrounding competitor Ledger, both the popularity and sales of Trezor have skyrocketed.
