Blockchain start-up ARK is proud to announce its partnership with French hardware wallet provider Ledger. The ARK/Ledger collaboration has been in development for a while and ARK will be the tenth cryptocurrency to be supported by Ledger hardware. The Ledger hardware devices offer additional security for individuals who wish to store their ARK safely.

ARK now runs on a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) blockchain and will be the first JavaScript blockchain ever to get full integration into the Ledger Nano and Nano S Hardware Wallets. In addition, the collaboration will see ARK-desktop and ARK-mobile wallets come to fruition.

Both the wallets will be BIP32/BIP44 compliant, giving users the choice to generate HD wallets with additional security, without the possibility of any passphrase leaking from the ledger device.

Once fully compatible with the Ledger hardware wallets, Ledger hardware wallet support for mobile and desktop will also be finalized. Both wallets will just require the use of the Ledger to sign transactions if the ledger account is synced to the Ark wallets.

In addition, any future ARK cloned network, ARK fork, ARK test-net or dev-net will be compatible with the Ledger hardware wallet. It will make every ARK clone Ledger compatible. The release for the ARK support is set for July 28th, 2017 and both the Ledger Nano S and Ledger blue will be compatible.

What is a Ledger?

Ledger is a cryptocurrency hardware wallet for storing cryptographic assets and securing digital payments. The Ledger range support multiple cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and soon ARK. The devices connect to any computer through a USB to micro-USB cable and embed a secure OLED display to double-check and confirm every transaction with the simple click of two side buttons.

The Ledger Nano S keeps secret information such as private keys hidden at all times. The devices operations are isolated inside a state-of-the-art Secure Element and are locked with a changeable 4 to 8-digit pin code. It is impossible for transactions to be tampered with and they are physically verified on an embedded screen through simple button controls.

Users can send and receive payments, check their accounts and manage multiple addresses for each currency from the same device. The Ledger Nano S supports FIDO® Universal Second Factor standard, a feature that simplifies the authentication process for compatible online websites such as Dropbox, Gmail, Dashlane and GitHub. In the event of a lost or stolen device, users can simply refer to their recovery sheet and access their accounts with a compatible replacement device. (BIP39/BIP44).

Ledger Features

  •    Ledger Nano S is developed on a dual chip architecture (ST31/STM32, Certification level: CC EAL5+ and its firmware integrity are guaranteed by cryptographic attestation.
  •    The Ledger Nano S guarantees only the user can access their accounts by requiring a 4 to 8-digit PIN code each time it is plugged into a computer.
  •    Initialization or restoration of the user’s configuration is fully done in the secure environment of the Ledger Nano S. No cryptographic details are ever exposed.
  •    Users private keys are never held or known by Ledger or a third party and are hard locked in the Secure Element. With Ledger Nano S, the user’s wallet remains completely decentralized.
