A small step for Austria, a big one for adoption: Twelve branches are getting their own BTC machines. The interest is “very great.
Twelve MediaMarkt stores in Austria are getting their own Bitcoin vending machines. Through them, people will be able to buy cryptocurrencies on the spot.
The initiative was created in cooperation with Kurant, the European market leader for the distribution of such vending machines. It is based in Austria.
The first Bitcoin vending machine in Austria was installed in a MediaMarkt back in 2019, in the capital Vienna. Interest was reportedly “very high,” Kurant explained in a press release.
“There are interesting opportunities here for retailers to attract new customers on the one hand and to participate financially in the stationary sale of cryptocurrencies on the other,” writes Kurant CEO Stefan Grill.
Kurant has installed over 200 Bitcoin vending machines across Europe, including Germany, Spain and Greece.
There are 34,000 Bitcoin ATMs worldwide (as of December 2021), 30,000 of which are located in the United States.
