Almost 70% of the nodes with Bitcoin Unlimited went offline yesterday due to a software error.
Bitcoin Unlimited is an implementation of the Bitcoin protocol which, among other things, allows free choice of the block size. The project grew out of the first major debates about scaling and has many supporters, but also many critics.
After this variant of Bitcoin was often positive in the press came yesterday a hard blow: It was recognized that a mistake in the code was enough to throw Nodes quasi by command from the net.
This is, of course, dramatic: Nodes are essential for the network, but the entire current blockchain is stored on them.
The problem was immediately named as such by Peter Tschipper, a Bitcoin Unlimited Developer on Github. In the social networks, this problem was, of course, both emotionally discussed by both enthusiastic fans and bitter critics.
