Mining hardware maker Bitmain has unveiled the next generation of its 7nm mining chip. The chip BM1397 is to be used in Antminer S17 and T17 and to make the Bitcoin mining among other things more energy-saving.
Mining giant Bitmain unveiled its latest 7 nanometer chip “BM1397” on February 18th. Bitmain promises significant improvements in energy efficiency for bitcoin and bitcoin cash mining. The new chip is said to reduce energy consumption to up to 30 joules per terahash. This means a 28 percent improvement in energy yield over its predecessor 1391th In a press release announces the mining giant full-bodied:
Bitmain’s innovations allow anyone to benefit from cryptocurrencies anywhere, anytime. The BM1397, part of Bitmain’s growing chip portfolio, is designed to provide a better mining experience and aims to set a new benchmark in ASIC chip technology.
The chip is in principle suitable for mining all cryptocurrencies with the proof-of-work algorithm SHA256. The best known of these are Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. Here is a list of SHA256 coins. The chip BM1397 is to be used in Antminer S17 and T17 – the release date is to be announced shortly.
