Bosch sees a number of applications for IOTA in a world where vehicles communicate and negotiate autonomously. An example of this is when autonomous cars are grouped on a road to reduce drag and therefore fuel consumption. This is called platooning, and is already known by professional cyclists and also by birds to improve the aerodynamics. With IOTA, the cars that communicate with each other can take advantage of the benefits of platooning and save fuel, and this type of communication can be done and paid through the Tangle network.

In July of last year, the BBC reported that Bosch announced it was working with the company of entrepeneur Elon Musk, Tesla. The goal is to differentiate Tesla’s car from competitors such as Uber and Google technologically. BBC journalist Joe Miller was allowed to test drive the latest prototype of the company equipped with Bosch software. The company hopes to provide all of its cars with this software over the next five years. It was not confirmed if this prototype already has a connection to the IOTA-Tangle network.

Daimler and Bosch apparently plan together the commercial use of Robo taxis. This reports the industry magazine Automobilwoche. The two German companies therefore want to bring their vehicles faster than the Google sister Waymo on the road.
