Do Kwon has been jailed for using a fake passport. The prison sentence: four months. The suspected fraud of the Terra founder is still under trial.
Do Kwon was sentenced to four months in prison for attempting to use a fake Costa Rican passport to leave Montenegro.
According to local media reports, the Terra founder pleaded not guilty last week. Kwon has been in custody since March while authorities argue over extradition to either the US or South Korea.
The last three months were included in the sentence now set, as the basic court in Podgorica explained in a statement.
Do Kwon’s defense attorneys have 30 days to appeal. How the decision affects the deposit of 40,000 euros remains to be seen.
As part of the trial, prosecutors have already frozen Do Kown’s personal assets — around $176 million.
The court also banned the sale of Kwon’s luxury Seoul apartment and a number of imported cars. Under South Korean law, suspects are prohibited from disposing of the proceeds and property of a crime.
