Tether strengthens its Bitcoin strategy: revelations about the secret growth of crypto reserves and future plans.

Tether Strengthens Its Bitcoin Reserves

The prominent crypto firm Tether, known as an issuer of USDT, significantly increased its Bitcoin position on Monday with the purchase of 8,888 BTC worth $735 million. This acquisition, which took place at 8:58 PM (UTC) and is documented by data from Arkham, originated from Bitfinex, a crypto exchange and sister company of Tether.

Size of Bitcoin Holdings

With this purchase, Tether increases its total Bitcoin holdings to 92,647 BTC, worth $7.7 billion at the current market price. This places Tether among the largest Bitcoin holders and makes the firm a significant player in the crypto market. Tether now holds approximately 61% of the total supply in the stablecoin sector, currently valued at approximately $234 billion. Tether itself has a market capitalization of nearly $144 billion.

Tether’s Commitment and Market Position

Tether’s recent purchases have also solidified its position among Bitcoin holders. The company is now the sixth-largest address on the Bitcoin network. According to data from Bitcoin Treasuries, Tether is the second-largest private company holding Bitcoin, surpassed only by investment firm Block.one. Only Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) and the three largest US Bitcoin spot ETF providers (BlackRock, Fidelity, and Grayscale) hold more Bitcoin than Tether.

Tether actively pursues a strategy of investing a portion of its net profit in Bitcoin. This commitment was announced in May 2023, when Tether stated that it would allocate 15% of its realized operating revenue to acquire the digital currency.

In addition to the Bitcoin acquisition, Tether minted a fresh 1 billion USDT on the Tron blockchain on Monday, underscoring its impressive performance on the network. CEO Paolo Ardoino confirmed this, explaining that this is an approved but unspent transaction that serves as inventory for future issuance requests.

In total, Tether has already minted 8 billion USDT on the Tron blockchain since the beginning of 2025 and a remarkable 22 billion USDT last year. This confirms Tether’s significant role in the crypto economy.
