Based on a recent report, Uber has forged a new partnership with blockchain technology firm Solve.Care which is expected to bring changes to the way healthcare professionals and patients are managing and coordinating medical appointments.

Uber Health and Solve Care

The ride-sharing giant has a healthcare subsidiary called Uber Health which is a HIPAA-compliant technology solution for healthcare organizations that allows hospitals and other healthcare professionals to ask for, manage and pay for rides for patients and staff at scale, and it is set to integrate with Solve Care’s wallet.

The press release stated that personal healthcare coordination and administration application will connect to Uber Health for preapproved and predetermined care appointments, therefore providing accessible and cheap rides to patients and caregivers.

Dan Trigub, head of Uber Health said that:

“Every year, an estimated 3.6 million Americans miss their medical appointments due to a lack of reliable transportation, with the cost of missed primary care appointments estimated at$150 billion annually. At Uber Health, we are always looking for ways to ensure that transportation is not a barrier to care. Via our HIPAA compliant solutions, we are working to facilitate rides for patients who might not have access or the ability to use smartphones and to improve access to care for patients with mobility issues. Our partnership with Solve Care supports our efforts by bringing innovation to the healthcare space and driving greater accessibility to care for patients.”

The Chief Executive Officer at Solve Care Pradeep Goel stated that the partnership is expected to provide managed transportation benefits to healthcare programs. He said:
“By offering access to this Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) service, we expect to improve the results of clinical delivery, and reduce overall healthcare costs for everyone.”

As Solve Care is built on the Ethereum blockchain, every ride is expected to be registered and recorded thereby allowing patients to pay for rides from their Care Wallet using Ethereum-based tokens, and also share the bill with employers, insurance companies, and family members.
