A user of the social media platform Reddit claims to have literally burned Bitcoin with a value of 50,000 US dollars and thus lost. His Bitcoin wallet actually caught fire. Not just the storage medium, an SSD card, but parts of his computer including the most valuable part of a computer: the hard disk.
Such scenarios can usually be protected by writing a twelve-digit code, preferably on a piece of paper or stowing spare copies securely. But even this could not prevent the fire. Both were deposited in the immediate vicinity of the calculator and destroyed.
Offline copies are a basic must and should be stowed well. Even in the event of a recovery, the cost falls. As a rule, this is not free and requires an effort.
Thus, 17 Bitcoins worth $ 50,000 were destroyed.
