It was only August when Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak announced his attachment to cryptocurrency startup Equi. However, while we knew the computer genius had a big part in the company, he kept his exact position under wraps.
His involvement was kept secret until today, when it was revealed that Wozniak is a co-founder of EQUI Global—a “company dedicated to the disruption of the venture capital industry,” reports Verdict.
Disrupting Traditional Investments
The group plans to “disrupt” the standard form of investing by enabling non-institutional investors to trade on multiple exchanges via “EquiTokens.”
Before Wozniak, EQUI had seen some tough times in canceling its ICO and having one of its systems accused of violating SEC securities law. But he must have seen some potential in the idea. In fact, Woz states:
“I get ideas pitched to me every single day in fact dozens and I always say no. Since I co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs, this is about the second time in twenty years that I actually said yes. I want to be a part of this. It has to be something I really believe in and I really believe in EQUI.”
EquiTokens are built on the Ethereum platform. Wozniak and team believe that EQUI will be the first of many platforms just like this, as investors “can easily liquidate investments when they need to” in trading the tokens on different exchanges.
80% of EQUI’s initial investments will be in technology, while the final 20% will span different industries such as art or property. Wozniak reveals that the team has “over 20 businesses that we are looking at and we haven’t even officially launched yet. It’s going to be very exciting.” He continues, “ultimately, our mission is to seek, support and fund the blockchain and tech stars of tomorrow. EQUI Global is a game-changer.”
Staying Active
Having largely stepped away from the technological side of development, Wozniak is now looking at funding and mentoring the next big tech projects as ways to contribute to the blockchain revolution:
“We are the teachers and I believe in that so strongly because, Apple was strongly mentored. The enjoyment we had, the passion, starting the company, the excitement, it’s the most exciting thing. I like to see it happen for others and just to be a part of being able to help make it happen for a lot of others out there is going to be a big deal for me. I think I have an important role and I can help a lot.”
Finally, Wozniak reiterated his excitement for the project.
“I know that we have something very special with EQUI,” says the Apple co-founder. “I’ve since enjoyed giving my feedback to the technical side of the initiative and will very much be an actively involved proud co-founder.”
