Aidemy, an online learning platform, has announced that it will add a new cryptocurrency-focused course to its offerings. The course, which is called “Blockchain Basic,” will teach students to code various blockchain features in an online environment.
Aidemy was originally founded in 2014 with a focus on AI technology. Since the site went live at the end of 2017, Aidemy has accumulated 10,000 users and has expanded its course offerings to cover several different tech subjects. The company is based in Japan, but it will distribute its blockchain course in the United States and elsewhere via its international site.
Early registrants will be able to access “Blockchain Basic” for free. This course will involve programming exercises that take place in an IDE in the user’s browser. Through these exercises, students will learn how mining, transactions, and consensus mechanisms work.
Users who register with an educational email address will also be able to access two bonus courses for free: “Blockchain Intermediate” and “Blockchain Advanced”.
The press release additionally notes that widespread ICO fraud originally motivated Aidemy to introduce the course. By some estimates, 81% of ICOs are scams, and this problem has collectively cost investors millions of dollars. With this in mind, Aidemy will teach students how to identify and avoid scams in the crypto world.

The State of Blockchain Education
Aidemy does not acknowledge any credentials that will be awarded to students upon completion of the course. However, this is not unusual: there are no widely recognized blockchain credentials or degrees at the moment.
Nevertheless, various universities have created blockchain and crypto courses: The London School of Economics introduced a crash course earlier this year. This followed similar offerings from MIT, Princeton, and the University of Buffalo. Meanwhile, sites such as Udemy offer low-cost online courses similar to those offered by Aidemy.
As the blockchain becomes more mainstream, it seems likely that these programs will coalesce into a more standardized educational approach. In the meantime, it will be up to Aidemy and others to generate an interest in blockchain education.
