On August 10th, the Tron (TRX) foundation confirmed that it had completed the successful acquisition of the BlockChain.Org domain name. Justin Sun intends on using the site/platform as a one-stop aggregated data and search engine platform. The announcement went on to state the following about the future of the platform:
“It will be a platform that offers big data analysis, project evaluation, information search and other services for users in the blockchain field. Justin also encourages others in the industry to participate and build a platform to help the growth of blockchain industry.”
Dissecting these words, we find that the Tron Foundation wants to create a search engine entirely geared towards the betterment of the blockchain industry. It is not yet known if the platform will be blockchain based or if it will use similar search engine protocols that are found in Google, Bing and others.
The Tron Foundation, through BlockChain.Org, aims at observing and keeping track of all the information in social media, the general web, and other existing search engines, that is blockchain related. Due to the fact that this is an immense amount of data, BlockChain.Org will be built to respond quickly to queries by having the back-end ability to process all information gathered in real-time and fast. This information will include regular text, videos, pdf and other structured data.
Traditional search engines like Google, use proprietary algorithms to search, index and categorize websites according to relevance. It uses factors such as the age of the website, the frequency of certain keywords as well as the external websites that link back to it, to determine the rank of a site.
Judging by the fact that the domain name for the new Tron platform ends with ‘.org’ means that it will be run as a non-profit by the Tron foundation. This is indeed important for more focus will be geared towards developing a better product for use by the online users rather than profits generated. This, therefore, adds to the visibility of the Tron project as well as TRX and to further extinguish FUD against Justin Sun.
