Professional football’s busy week with blockchain gets even busier as the English Premier League’s Leicester City football team has announced a new partnership with Ethereum-based sports betting platform FansUnite. The new partnership comes in the wake of news earlier this week that Leicester City, along with 6 other top-flight clubs, has opened a Bitcoin wallet on online trading platform eToro.

FansUnite announced on Twitter today that they will now be the official blockchain sports data partner of Leicester City F.C.

FansUnite will work in conjunction with Leicester City F.C. to launch a global reaching promotional campaign to celebrate their team. These promotions will consist of player meet-and-greets, contests, surprise giveaways, special FansUnite social engagements, and many more bonuses for fans yet to be revealed.

“We are proud to welcome FansUnite into our family of partners. They share our belief in the power of football to bring supporters together whether that is at King Power Stadium or around the world,” said Jonathan GregoryLeicesterCity’s Commercial Director. “FansUnite is an innovative brand looking to bring transparency and collaboration to their industry and we are delighted to be part of this journey.”

FansUnite CEO Darius Eghdami explained in today’s press release that the choice to partner with Lecister City F.C. was obvious:

“Leicester City F.C. is one of the premier brands in all of football, being one of just six clubs to hoist the Premier League Trophy since its inception in 1992. They are at the forefront of incorporating new technology to help improve player performance and fan engagement. Partnering with a globally recognized brand that shares our commitment to improving conditions for sports fans through the application of new technology was a natural fit.”

FansUnite Aims to Become the Industry Standard Sports Betting Platform on Ethereum

FansUnite Protocol aims to be an industry standard for sports betting and sports data applications. Built on the Ethereum network, FansUnite Protocol “will provide the infrastructure necessary to redistribute the responsibility over the execution and resolution of bets from centralized operators out to a network of independently operated and incentivized Oracles.” This serves to ensure bets placed on the network are free from bias and tampering, while securely storing betting details on the Ethereum blockchain.

The company successfully raised $4.45 million CAD in its Series A financing round and is now preparing for their regulatory compliant token launch later this year. FansUnite’s official platform launch is scheduled for late 2018.

According to today’s press release,

“In addition to the sportsbook offering, the FansUnite Protocol serves as the blockchain-based infrastructure for sports data applications, daily fantasy sports and a variety of other applications reliant on sports data…

The protocol will provide the groundwork for a host of applications that span traditional bookmaking, betting exchanges, daily fantasy sports, poker and card-based games, and a variety of other services reliant on sports data. These decentralized applications (DApps) will be free to charge fees, utilize their own tokens for betting, and set market prices based on full market information transparently available on the blockchain.”
