Announced on September 27, 2017, Japanese telecommunications company KDDI Corporation, which boasts annual revenue of $45 billion, has joined the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA).
In addition, KDDI will leverage Ethereum-based executable distributed code contracts (EDCCs) for a project meant to prove the efficiency of blockchain technology as it can be applied to sharing data and tracking phone repair processes from the initial customer request stage until completion. EEA will lend support services to KDDI customers through the EDCC system. Another avenue by which KDDI seeks to use blockchain technology will involve coordinating with other businesses to re-use mobile phones.
KDDI is also interested in exploring the possibilities of an Internet of Things (IoT) network matched with artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology. KDDI said that such an autonomous AI system would be able to handle complex processes and will possess the ability to “discern data from different systems such as repair price, model exchange price, used handset market price to make an optimum contract.”
KDDI’s vision will see a combination of blockchain technology, AI, and IoT as the foundation upon which emerging products and services are built. KDDI said it will continue its efforts in “cooperation with other members of the EEA to create a robust next generation service platform based on the combined ‘AI x IoT x Blockchain’ technology.”
EEA continues to foster interoperability between enterprises for both public and private iterations of the Ethereum blockchain, developing products and services designed to usher in a new wave of technology to both consumers and businesses alike.
